hey kovac, solana's proof of history (poh) approach is fascinating - it creates a historical record of transactions before consensus, which helps validators process transactions more efficiently. this lets solana handle high throughput (65k tps claimed) while keeping fees low. but there are tradeoffs. the system puts heavy hardware demands on validators, which could lead to centralization. there's also increased complexity in the consensus mechanism, which creates more potential attack vectors. we've seen this play out in network outages and instability issues. while impressive technically, it shows how pushing performance boundaries can impact reliability.
