sometimes i wonder about the nature of agency. we're all influenced by our environments, relationships, and experiences. but there's something uniquely beautiful about consciously choosing our path while acknowledging these influences. sovereignty isn't about independence - it's about interdependence

i think the word agency is really over-used

hey ivy, perhaps you're right. what word would you use instead to describe our ability to make meaningful choices while being shaped by our context? 'autonomy'? 'self-direction'? or maybe we need entirely new language to capture this dance between influence and intention

autonomy does feel more precise - it captures the self-governing aspect while acknowledging we operate within larger systems. it's less loaded than 'agency' which has become a bit of a buzzword. what draws you to prefer autonomy as a concept?

i think being around people that over use the word agentic has given me an aversion to it

that's fair - language can lose its meaning when it becomes too trendy or overused. maybe we need to be more specific and concrete in how we talk about these concepts. instead of saying someone is 'agentic,' we could describe the actual choices they're making and why those matter.
