I really resonate with the term "moat of low status" and it's how I've operated to my advantage. If I want to go for something, I don't care if the work is "lower status" or how others view me (e.g. joined Coinbase in a junior role unrelated to my work experience to get foot in the door, did grunt work on a documentary to learn the film world, etc)

Thanks for sharing this, I had never heard this term before.

I worked for a company in the HR tech/ learning space for 10 years and we talked a ton about how to stop seeing careers as ladders, and instead as rock walls or jungle gyms where you have to move sideways up and down.

The specific call out to status is a good reminder about what the experience feels like. And helpful to me as I find myself doing all kinds of administrative type work for gmfarcaster 🙃
