Is it possible $5 reward does more harm than good? 100 people get it every day which means thousands of DAU are not getting it. The 100 people might feel good and maybe it gets them to cast more, but is it at the cost 1000s feeling not good enough and casting less? I donโ€™t know the answer and itโ€™s just an experiment ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

This applies to channel members, FC dev day invites, etc. Fortunately, the autofollow list is gone. I donโ€™t have a good solution or much experience building consumer products. However, I understand how being excluded makes people feel, and that trust battery is limited. Status is a zero-sum game that not everyone is willing to play.

As someone who feels like I accidentally fell into this space, and doesnโ€™t speak dev language or crypto /meme language, Iโ€™ve gotten the reward twice now and itโ€™s actually really validating - my โ€œsocial capitalโ€ payoff so to speak. But idk what the primary motivator is of the award, if itโ€™s to support those building the space, might be missing the market, but if my presence counts as building the space then itโ€™s probably doing the right thing

as someone who's very comfortable with rejection (i write fiction), it goes well with my personal lore that i have never received the 5 usdc nor been boosted ๐Ÿ˜

Thatโ€™s like saying some employees got bonuses but those that didnโ€™t are upset so letโ€™s just get rid of bonuses Some people getting some money is better than no one getting anything Name me one disgruntled caster who left fc because they didnโ€™t get a $5 reward

What was the goal of the $5 daily rewards? I doubt it hurt anything other than the back account. Never felt bad on days I didnโ€™t get a reward. always surprised when I do get one.

Cast to earn is not a viable approach to social media, in my opinion, and I say that to mean that if you're only casting for the occasional 5 USDC bump then your approach to the "social" aspect of "social media" feels like it's driving for the wrong thing. I don't send my friends funny memes with the hopes that they'll pay me for the laughs I inspire.

I think people forget about it until they see someone post about it So we can probably just stop rubbing it in others' faces :)

Itโ€™s important to remember itโ€™s just $5. I havenโ€™t gotten it before but am seeing artist friends starting to get it now. Good for them. The way I see it, itโ€™s not a mark of worth, just means the algorithm likes you.

Totally acceptable There are multiple paths to earning on top of the purple app after all Different user types can optimize around different incentives This type of incentive is sufficiently limited as well such that attaining it feels sufficiently special while feelings of butt hurt should be sufficiently limited since we're talking about $5 lmao

this is the point of high culture, right? It's not even the amount, just the round fungible value for pleasing the cabal/algo/et al. they probably should A/B with 5x the winners at 1USDC (still memetic & incremental). no scenario where someone isn't offended by pareto optimality, anyway.

I feel weird getting $5. I was just sharing stuff I like so I thought my internet frens will like it too - but now it's labor? It takes something away of the Genuity I reckon

Yes! Extrinsic motivation vs. Intrinsic motivation. Tell a kid to practice piano, and if they "love" it (or can grow to love it) they will do it and go deep. On the other hand though, bribe them to do it with trifling payouts, like $5 (or lollies) and you utterly rob them of the potential of finding their intrinsic love with the activity, discovering a deeper inner volition to push through the hard stuff to achieve mastery* Concert pianist...or Caster. Same/Same, right? (*or so goes some of the social science research I read about that, think the book was "Drive" by Daniel Pink, 2009)

I received my first $5 reward today, and I felt really great about it. But now I realize it can motivate some while possibly discouraging others.
