Saying things in public that you couldn’t say a few years ago is not evidence the Overton window has widened. Especially if people who used to say certain things in public are now talking in group chats. It just means the pendulum swung and the content inside the window has changed. Changing what’s acceptable to say is a zero sum game if you make it hard for people who disagree to speak out in public. I care way more about free speech and having a wide range of “taboo” topics that are safe to talk about than I do about any one specific thing that used to be taboo we are allowed to openly talk about.
