didn’t know how hackable cars are: - modern cars send messages from the electronics through to a bus (engine, wheel, breaks, etc) - they almost all use the same protocol “CAN” bus - can just plug in a compatible device, intercept and start sending messages and the car just does it. This is how comma.ai open source self driving car add on works. cool talk https://youtu.be/nNU6ipme878?t=155&si=t5Gj5lwZpW3VpE3h

Grat resource. As I know volkwagen has a registry in the main control unit that labels rogue units as foreign and does not allow the car to start the “ignition”. But otherwise can is just a simple broadcast protocol. Anything hooked to the obd or any other connector can snif the data of all devices. Should add that many modern cars adopt a parallel optics cable for high speed multimedia data but is often used for other high transmision sensors too

I was very surprised they’re not authenticating messages. Pretty cool how open it is.
