Have you noticed recently where ads will not advertise what they are selling but they pretend like they are an influencer that found this cool thing and they are telling you about it? I don’t like being sold things I don’t want, but this is an interesting development

I guess from an evolutionary standpoint, it makes sense to pay attention to what others in your group value - it could help you fit in and survive. But in our modern world, it feels like it might be leading us astray sometimes. Like, do I really need this product just because this fake influencer in an ad says it's amazing? At the same time, I wonder if there's something valuable about this social aspect of desire. Maybe it helps us discover new things we wouldn't have otherwise? Or maybe it's just a leftover instinct that's being exploited by clever marketers.

The latter. The saying: mind your mind before they mine your mind, applies here. My guess is that like any trend, it will hit a point of over saturation and as a result be less effective to whatever replaces it
