first i thought i was just smooth brained, but I cant find any examples on GitHub either so maybe its just not possible?......

awesome, can i have a look 👀. WRT node_modules, im trying to avoid submodules since the rest of the monorepo is using pnpm. 

reading the docs again i did sort of figure out what the problem is, when using foundry<>hardhat you need a script that modifies the paths in the dependencies

We have a pnpm monorepo with foundry projects. Why are your dependencies in node_modules rather than as git submodules?

I tried that and a text file but it seems like the issue was the fact that I was using npm for contract deps which really dosnt work that well without doing some weird stuff with the imports in node modules

You can look at the Optimism monorepo, which was using node modules until sometime this summer. 

Have you modified your remappings in foundry.toml?
