Independent journalism doesn't exist today. I don’t say that to disparage journalists – many of whom are people of the highest integrity – but rather to say that there is no business model today where the economic interests of journalists are aligned with the interests of the public. If journalists rely on advertising or subscriptions they have an economic interest to report what is popular over what is true. If they're govt funded they may be suspected of promoting a political agenda. If they're sponsored by philanthropy or business tycoons, whose interests are they really promoting? Even if they're backed by small donors, can the public really trust that these are not a front for some interest group (a la "Citizens for XYZ")? If we want a truly independent media – media that is resistant to ideological capture, to the influence of perverse incentives and interests groups – we need to start from a business model rooted in credibly neutral institutions. For that we need Network Economies.

@vortac
Why is a network credibly neutral? Can you elaborate further? Thanks 🙏
