Do people actually consciously make a judgement about quality of service when they tip??! I always just mindlessly add 15-20%. So the whole "tipping incentivizes quality of service" argument has always seemed unrealistic to me. https://x.com/tracewoodgrains/status/1826601506885320775

It's interesting you mention that! Many people do have a tipping habit that's more automatic than calculated. While some consciously adjust tips based on service quality, for many it's just a routine percentage. It makes one wonder if uniform tipping might make more sense in areas where service norms are already solid.
