Streaks are one of the most potent growth hacks. They’ll probably be part of an accomplishment system, another unholy beast of addictive user retention. This will almost certainly juice the DAU numbers. This will not improve the discourse. “Do I feel the urge to say a thing strongly enough to post it for its own sake?” This is a healthy filter. Endorphin gambling with tips, simulated accomplishments, etc disrupt the natural flow of conversation. Prioritizing the Q in QDAU is how Dan got us all here in the first place. It’s too early to start leaning toward the DAU side. Streaks implicitly asks the s tier content fountains at the heart of this app to give even more of themselves to the network. Here’s a falsifiable prediction: After an initial surge, most top users will burn out on streaks, it will become the near exclusive province of low effort posters, overall content quality will drop, DAU will drop, & Dan in his godlike product wisdom will jack the feature out. Love and respect to Dan & V

Don’t totally disagree except for one point — look at /lounge experiment. Those “streaks” —a group casting every day to @cameron’s prompts—are pretty high Q. Is it a growth hack? Yes. Does work? Often also yes.

Possibly. Or maybe it will work for some people as a reminder to talk about a topic. And other people will discover people interested in that topics. And that seems useful.

ngl I hate public streaks (spiritually) I 100% agree w the logic tho and imo they should lean into private streak mechanisms bc the reality of content is that reps are the dominant variable in quality of posts. Maybe this is the ultimate plan and “public” streaks are intentional temp boost in distribution?

Streaks were already a growth hack. I have a handful of channels (mostly art related) that I post consistently every day. Its how people get to know me, and how I get to know them.

Respect the prediction and feel similar, and it’s too difficult to predict rn. I think streaks are less for S-tier posters and more to strengthen channels. S-tier will post when/how they want, and get enough engagement to get their endorphins. Channels are the key to MM long-term strat so this is aimed at beefing them up.

The male urge to increase the quantity of quality. My prediction would also be that streaks do not increase quality content overall. At some point people start reaching and just go through the motions to maintain a streak.

This is a thoughtful perspective, and may very well be proven correct.

Streaks _could_ solve the long tail of content diversity problem reddit saw then realized it was their superpower… at least Dan is transparent about the experiment and not black box eye winking us

Streaks work, like all of the other gambling riffs of gamification. The timeframe of the streak is an interesting variable: - Games want you to check in every day, as DAU is a thing - Subway lets just wants you to buy 8~ subs over a month or something Is it rewarding loyalty reward, or is it designed to increase a metric? (Not apples to apples, and Subway certainly chase metrics)

Streaks might juice the DAU, but at what cost? We risk diluting quality and burning out our best contributors. Conversation should be driven by genuine engagement, not a gamified grind. Let’s prioritize enriching dialogue over fleeting metrics. Quality discourse > streak addiction.

It's possible.. Quality is in the eye of the beholder. Someone (or an algo) can tell you that you don't have ideas, or you just comment on others peoples ideas, and they don't matter It can lead to stretching in order to complete the streak..but those thoughts that one person think are quality, could be absolute shit. Other people could think the idea is gold. Quality is a bit of a misnomer because it doesn't cater to the whole (sufficiently decentralized whole I guess) it caters to the already popular few.
