Thoughts on getting married at 22? I have a friend who’s getting married this year and it SCARED me. Is it a good idea to get married that early?

How long have they known each other? Are they emotionally mature? Do they have a healthy relationship?

Like 4 months. Which shocked me. Made me reflect on what marriage actually means. Not sure what the value prop is.

Ya 4 months is stretching it. But getting married young in general is underrated, I think Too many people are trying to preserve optionality indefinitely. Leaves them without a home base, without a specialty, without a family, without a community

This is a really great way to frame it. I really appreciate that you mentioned this. I was starting to feel that way too…

The way culture is now, I think we’re swinging on the opposite side of pedulum of a nuclear family aka that optionality mentality. Neither is necessarily right or wrong but both have its trade offs. Depends on your values and long terms goals.

And also it depends on WHY you want to get married in the first place. Marriage is actually just a legal contract, nothing more. A union does NOT need a marriage to be strong. Needing to sign something to feel bonded is a perception blind spot in my opinion. So if you REALLY feel that the person is the right one, do it
