If ross looked like this, instead of this he'd still be in jail rn. Dude tried to have multiple people killed, there's chat logs, it's on the blockchain. Some of those people weren't real, at least one was. Either way this was his m.o. just after like 18 months or being the Dread Pirate Roberts. Crazy that people cheer him on.

I remember quotes of the entrapment messages, the FBI agents were pushing real hard to order hits after he wasn't interested. Also something about him not being allowed to use server logs to prove that he didn't actually order those hits, multiple people had access to his account, etc? Plus the agents involved later went to prison for corruption in that case. I don't think he deserved even 11 years, let alone multiple life sentences and no chance of parole. The judge said he was being made an example of, which is itself an atrocity. Despite all that, he has been a model inmate by all accounts and did everything to show rehabilitation and remorse.

My understanding is that since no one was actually killed people thought the sentence was too harsh

if the prosecutors really believed they had a good case for the murder conspiracies they could have brought the charges and tried the case before the people. beyond a reasonable doubt not a preponderance of evidence. SCOTUS jurisprudence has eroded due process for decades and people are on edge about tyranny.

Also funny thought: The guy on the left reminds me of Kim Dotcom, who also incidentally had a lot of community support when faced with law enforcement pressures despite not looking like a 90s heart throb.

i can understand you're pov. its been awhile since i got into the details, but I think once I found out how dirty the cops were that were dealing with this, everything fell apart for me. either way i still think he didn't deserve the time he was given..they wanted to make a statement, and a statement they made. and for real though, who's the dude on the left?

Wasn’t it a setup though? Like the feds tried to pin the guy so they manufactured an entire fake story, put pressure on him, and even suggested that he hire a hitman just so they can be like “you hired a hitman you’re arrested”

As usual I think it’s a case of multiple narrative layers getting mixed up, and people looking at the same case but from different angles. Trump’s pardon is not without afterthought — he called the prosecutor “scum” which shows that the decision is partly motivated by vindictive behavior. Then most people agree the sentence was heavy-handed relative to the charges that stuck —even the appellate court said so (screenshot)— and needed revisiting. The murder-for-hire part also doesn’t sit well with me. If Ulbricht is guilty of ordering hits, then regardless of whether they happened, he deserves a long sentence on par with an actual murder But given the questionable chain of custody for the evidence here, and given that it was never tried by a jury of his peers, I’m eventually ok with ignoring that aspect of the case. Which means that Ulbricht, like any other citizen, should not be treated more harshly on the basis of a suspicion, no matter how strong So on balance I’m ok with the outcome

Did they prove that in court? No. Chat logs… Did the corrupt agent have access to post as DPR? Yes. Corrupt agent? Did those agents later get caught for corruption? Yup.

I talked to one of my friends and he said that the charge got dropped because the gov wouldn't let there be an independent forensic audit of the logs.
