The only long paper I ever wrote was my english senior paper. Teacher said the academic way of writing was quoting paragraph, even page long references, citing them, and then adding your own bits in between. Wrote maybe 10% original stuff, got an A, felt like cheating. Have the academics just gotten sloppy?

ok but don't you hate it when there's a popular reaction video and the person reacting actually added zero value while reaping all the rewards

I used to hate writing because as much as a stickler folks were about citing, the end result of the papers hardly presented any thoughtful ideas. 

We got graded on how accurate the citation was rather than what points we wanted to articulate. It’s no different now 😭

Reading most of the academic papers give me headache. In a single topic, after reading 3rd paper I feel like trapped in time and reading same thing all the time.
