you move to sf for talent density, serendipity, funding, and weather. you obv need to go out to benefit from that.

the cause of shittyness is well documented imo (zoning, rent control, harm reduction, lawlessness, defunding police, etcetc). its a damn shame because sf could have been america's great new cosmopolitan metropolis, a sunny new york, but they chickened out.

it’s sad to me because SF was a rare kind of place and now it’s grind-in-your-pod, extract, and move on stopover. boomer things but there are places where that kind of thing would have made more sense, been less culturally destructive. Course you can’t really plan them out like that. And yeah, while I’m not super pro nomadism I’m much more in favor of decentralized grind mode - keeps places from getting overwhelmed.
