half baked thoughts: defi is for everyone for consumers, defi comes across complicated and often intentionally difficult gigabrain systems. but every person who uses money (spoiler: everyone) would benefit from transparent efficient decentralized financial systems. If it’s $50 or $5000, a person can earn yield on it (which I bet would at least double the savings rate offered by any given bank), which would get them a “free” coffee once a week, cover monthly gym membership or a hypersub or someone could finally afford to buy a long-desired artwork. We need more “earn” sections in wallets and simple front ends that would abstract the complexity from users. We need more protocols (like @morpho 🫴🦋) that lets anyone build on top of it while benefiting from the underlying tech and liquidity. consumer-friendly defi, who’s building this?

imo it'll be "for everyone" once wallets just natively do it. oh you got USDC? yeah wanna earn on it? boom you just confirm and it auto sends all USDC and future usdc to morpho and shows you interest gained. When you want to use it you just click USD and spend (out of vault, to target is handled by the wallet)

Where is the cognitive overload? Not everyone wants to be trader and ever market has volatility. Transparency in value is important when I think about replacing the 'earn' every consumer has today through loyalty programs but there is reason everyone doesn't sign up. Transparency is one but mostly effort! People don't want to put the effort or care enough.

What I feel is missing from this take is education. People can and do have access to incredible things but have no idea how to use them. Those who have experience conflate their knowledge as obvious for others. How much of the general population is even aware of a binding curve, let alone understands how to use it to their advantage? I’d reckon less than 0.1% of the world. So it being “for everyone” is the wrong metric to track. It being “understood by everyone” is something we should be striving to do more of.

We’re building it at /bcard , but I will hazard a guess and say MANY builders self-identify as “consumer defi” builders. One issue we’ve found is that crypto-native and crypto-curious needs are VERY DIFFERENT, so when bootstrapping users, you can’t use any trad crypto channels if you ultimately want to attract new people to the space. It just puts you in a really awkward place - the people who want your solution to exist aren’t served as well by your solution.
